I would like to send warm greetings for my Art enthusiasts and Damha companions around the world firstly. Today on 24th of September 2020, I have turned 90 years old which is a great time to celebrate my long life with the “Art” I adore. Ever since I was 5 months old, my father passed away and I had to live with my mother in such hardships. In 1947 at the age of 17, I have dropped out from the school in order to pursue my dream of studying art. I started out by being an apprentice of local artists, learnt to paint posters and signboards for income.
Later on, I had such a great opportunity to study Art theoretically in 1954 under lecturer U Thet Win. In 1958, I entered the competition which I get chosen as an art lecturer at State School of Fine Art where I worked until 1979. My lucky days came again in 1964 when I was sent to Oriental Art Institute of Beijing as part of cultural student exchange program between China and Myanmar. The professor in Beijing taught me how to sketch in a given time and the Oriental way of painting portrait, landscapes and still life in swift brush strokes. From those experiences, I believe I had found my own style of “Action-Impression” depicting swift and accurate brush strokes in my paintings.
Later on, my path came across with late master Artist U Thein Han who was the student of late master artist U Ba Nyan. While staying under guidance of him for 5 years, I have learnt many things about both Art and religious sayings which I find them very grateful until today.
In year 1972, I went to east Germany as part of cultural exchange program and studied ‘Preservation of Art’ for 1 year. During those time, I was in touch with the Impressionism artworks from different timeline and had chances to preserve them. It must have been my luck that I was able to learn the aspects of Impressionism in such close manner. Finally, I retired from State School of Fine Art in 1979 and administrated some art arrangement of show rooms in Minister of Mine until 1988. I started out as a full-time artist in 1990 at Golden Valley Art Centre, Yangon. In 1999 I established my own gallery “Artist Life Art Gallery” with the help of my family. Starting from that day until now, I have created splendid artworks in different medium.
Art is the way of describing the beauty
I would like to say that there is a magic of creating artistic artworks. The following components make up the whole aspects of the artworks:
Starting with the drawing, the other components will follow up to create the artwork until the very extent of artist’s creation and when the artistic ‘sense’ is valid, the magic is complete. The artist describes the way he sees the beauty of the object on the paper or canvas. You could always see the artwork reinforced with one of the components mentioned above according to artist’s mind and preference.
I believe creating artworks isn’t only what a great artist could do but also putting the artistic sense into every pieces of artwork by his own creation. Creating artworks right from the photo and images is a talent itself however if we let our mind wander freely outside the boundaries, the mind can create such splendid and artistic pieces of work. I have dedicated my whole life of 73 years in Art field. Most of the paintings are from my mind and heart without any references. I am happy that my efforts result in such great legacy and I couldn’t be happier for becoming an artist. I love Art. I love paintings. I love all of you.
With my curious and vibrant mind, I adore the ‘Art’ which will be a legacy of me throughout my whole life. Art lives freely through my brush strokes as my mind carries on and on.
Best Regards,
